A MESSAGE FROM ALLY

It is all about the women!!! In March NSW Boxing appointed Ben as the NSW Women’s Coach, that decision was proven to be sound when the team chosen to go to WA to compete at the World Championship Qualifiers included 4 Boxing Works Women all training under Coach Ben. Today we meet Coach Annabel and Caitlin. Next issue will focus on Coach Viviana and Lizza, I am sure you will all join me in wishing the girls the best of luck on this journey.

THE BOXING BABES

My boxing journey began around three years ago as a means to improve fitness, lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle. I very quickly became addicted to the satisfaction of overcoming the many challenges that the sport presents, deciding to commit full time to pursuing the dream of representing Australia and fighting overseas.

Over the past two years, I have competed in 23 fights, winning two Novice State titles in my first year of competition. I have fought world silver medalists, a Commonwealth Games gold medalist and Olympian, and have fought my way to the number one Middleweight seed in NSW, by winning the NSW Elite State Title earlier this year. I have trained at the Australian Institute of Sport alongside the national team under Boxing Australia, and am a currently on the Boxing Australia TID squad. Earlier this month I represented NSW at the second Super 8 tournament in Perth, winning two out of three fights.

Currently I am in camp in the lead up to the World Championship qualifiers at the end of July in Perth, where I will fight for my spot on the Australian Team.

My nickname is Sparklehorse!   Love me!

Annabel started boxing for fitness in 2015 and started fighting in 2016. She first fought for and won the NSW State Title in 2017, defeating a former Commonwealth Games and Olympic selectee in just her 6th fight. She has since gone on to compete at an international level, sharing the ring with multiple World Medallists, Commonwealth Games Medallists and Olympians in her 19 fight career. She currently has her sights firmly set on World Championships this year, with representing her country at the 2020 Olympics the ultimate goal.
Annabel is also a Boxing Works coach and produces the Fox Sports program ‘Fight Call Out’, using these platforms to strongly advocate for a growing female presence in a male-dominated sport.
